This Privacy Policy explains how Nitya Panchangam (the “App”), including its Apple Watch companion app and Home Screen/Lock Screen widgets, handles information when you use it. Nitya Panchangam is developed by Abhishek Shukla (“we”, “us”).
We built Nitya Panchangam to do all of its astronomical (Panchang) calculations on your device using the Swiss Ephemeris library. We do not operate any backend server for the App, and we do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data to anyone.
1. Information We Collect
Location
The App requests access to your device’s location (When In Use) in order to calculate location-specific values such as sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, Tithi, Nakshatra, Muhurats, Hora, and Lagna timings for where you are.
- Your location is used only on your device to perform these calculations.
- If you decline location access, you can instead search for and select a city manually; the App defaults to Ujjain, India if no location is available.
- Your location is never sent to us or to any third-party server.
Notification Preferences
If you enable Panchang alerts (Tithi, Hora, Lagna, Chaughariya, or Muhurat transitions), the App schedules local notifications directly on your device using Apple’s notification framework. We do not receive or store data about which notifications you enable, and no push notification server is involved.
Purchases (Premium Subscription)
If you choose to purchase a Premium subscription, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store / StoreKit. We never see or store your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.). The App only stores whether your subscription is currently active, so it can unlock Premium features — this status is kept on your device (and shared securely with the Widget and Apple Watch app via Apple’s App Group container, never with us).
Data Stored Locally
The following is stored only on your device (and, where applicable, synced privately between your iPhone, its widgets, and your paired Apple Watch via Apple’s own frameworks):
- Saved location (city, latitude/longitude)
- Language and calendar system preference
- Notification preferences
- Premium subscription status
None of this data is transmitted to us or to any third party.
Diagnostics
The App uses Apple’s MetricKit, a built-in iOS framework, to help us understand on-device performance issues (such as memory usage or UI hitches) and crashes. Any diagnostic data shared with us through Apple’s platform is aggregated and does not identify you personally. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in this App.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information above solely to:
- Calculate accurate, location-specific Panchang details for you
- Remember your preferences (language, calendar system, location) between app launches
- Deliver the notifications you’ve opted into
- Unlock Premium features you’ve purchased
- Sync your Panchang data to your Apple Watch and widgets
- Diagnose and fix performance issues or crashes
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
3. Data Sharing
We do not share your personal data with third parties. The only “sharing” that occurs is:
- Apple, to process In-App Purchases and, if you’ve opted in via iOS Settings, to share aggregated diagnostic/crash data with us as the developer.
- Your own devices — your iPhone, Apple Watch, and widgets communicate with each other locally via Apple’s App Group and Watch Connectivity frameworks, not through our servers (because we don’t operate any).
4. Children’s Privacy
Nitya Panchangam is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
5. Your Choices
- You can grant or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- You can enable or disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications, or within the App.
- Deleting the App removes all locally stored data described above from your device.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
